In the fourth episode of season 1 (s1e4) an FBI agent Olivia comes across a strange series of events where a cylinder is found unharmed at a blast site. It is discovered that the cylinder is responsible for the blast. Broyles, the head of the investigating team also tells that a similar type of cylinder was found at other sites where a series of blasts occurred.
